Benahavís – an expensive mountain village

Benahavís is a mountain village (pueblo in Spanish) located on the Southern side of the Serrania de Ronda mountain range. It is seven kilometres from the coast, 22 kilometres from the centre of Marbella and 23 kilometres from the centre of Estepona.

Arabs founded the town at the end of the 11th century. The name Benahavís is derived from Havis, the Moorish prince who reigned in Montemayor Castle back in the days. Benahavís comes from “Bin al Havís”, which is Arabic for “son of Havis”.

Today, it is not the town’s strategic position that attracts visitors and the 7.829 people living in Benahavís – even though the location and its view are still extraordinary.
